Greg Newey

Greg was educated at Twickenham Grammar School and went on to have a long career in HR and HSE Management. Along the way he developed a keen interest in sports, particular, cricket, rugby, football and fly fishing. Latterly his hobbies include thematic stamp collecting and developing a library of books on the subject of fly tying from around the world.
He began his fishing on the banks of the River Trent in his birth city of Nottingham. Then having moved with his parents to West Ewell in Surrey, he joined Leatherhead and District Angling Society having one season as a junior member. During his time as a senior member he held various positions: Fisheries Officer, Treasurer, Vice Chairman, Chairman and is currently a life member as one of it’s Vice Presidents. Greg is also a keen fly tier and currently the Secretary to the Wey Valley Branch of the Fly Dressers Guild.

Greg turned to fly fishing in his mid-30’s and has been a keen advocate ever since. He has been lucky enough when travelling on business to fly fish in the US, Canada, Switzerland, Slovenia and the Czech Republic. In recent years Greg has also been saltwater fly fishing in the Bahamas and Cuba.
Greg taught both his sons to play golf, ski and of course to fly fish. Greg is now retired and lives in Hampshire in the UK with his partner Sue.
