Phil Roberts’ entire career of more than sixty years has been spent in the fishing and fish industries, firstly as a fisherman on deep sea trawlers, and then as a manager of fishing fleets, and fish trading and processing companies around the world. He has lived and worked in seventeen different countries across four continents. In the early 2000’s he managed a sixteen vessel fleet of tuna purse seiners in the Western Pacific. He was later managing director for ten years of the Singapore office of the world’s largest integrated tuna catcher, processor and trader – Tri-Marine International, with responsibility for trading and operations in the Asia-Pacific region. He remains a director of that company and its subsidiaries and is the current Chairman of the boards of SolTuna Ltd, a tuna cannery/processor, and National Fisheries Developments Ltd, a tuna fishing company. He is also a Senior Business Advisor to the CEO of the parent company’s Food Group.
He also worked with fishery research and development projects for UN agencies and the UK government, in Kenya, the Middle East, and Papua New Guinea.
Phil was granted M.B.E. in the 2000 Queen’s Birthday Honours, for services to the Solomon Islands fishing industry.
