About The Author

Peter Goulding

This book is the result of research carried out by Pete and Kathi during the construction of the N-gauge model railway layout of Bulford Village Station, Wiltshire. This was conceived in May 1991 and eventually first displayed in July 1994 at the Bulford Craft Fair, and subsequently twice in Amesbury Library as well as other shows.

With a forward by the late Robert Key, MP for Salisbury 1983–2010, the book covers the conception and building of the layout, as well as the history of the original Bulford Station, including the erstwhile GWR Avon Valley route and the Larkhill Military Railway. Further chapters cover the Royal Flying Corps on the Plain – including the deaths and funerals of Capt Loraine and SSgt Wilson and Airman’s Cross, Guns on the Line – a brief history of railway guns at Bulford, a selection of relevant news items and some reminiscences and tales as told to us during our research.
